Google Sniper – Update 2
After eating and drinking far too much over the Christmas holiday, I’ve added a couple more posts to my sniper site over the last view days. Remember these aren’t random posts, these are keyword relevant to my main phrase, and are located in the correct category / page sub directory.
You see to have any chance with SEO you’ve got to start right, from the very beginning. Plan and write out the structure of the site. It never ceases to amaze me how how people can write thousands of words on a site without mentioning the keyword that people are looking for, or even what they actually sell. (Remember you’re looking at this site because you want to get money quick, wink, wink).
I remember looking at a site for a friend who’s company sold bathrooms and was amazed to find that on the home page, there was no mention whatsoever of bathrooms! Google did not have a clue what the site was for. On the whole site the word ‘bathroom’ was mentioned once, whereas ‘interior design’ was repeated quite often so that’s what google thought the company did. Not quite the same thing. The site was like that for 3 years, so think of all the missed business. Although I couldn’t change the structure of his site immediately, just by putting all the right keywords (“bathrooms London” for example) in the text soon had it flying up the page positions.
Anyway, I can now find my site, and I am currently in position 33 with absolutely no traffic. Just goes to show that if your not on the first page you’re not in the game.
One thing to do when you are checking your position is to use a browser with no history, because if you’ve been clicking on your own link Google will think that you like that site and whack it on the first page. It’s sort of reminding you of a previous search for the same keyword phrase, from which you went to and stayed on a particular site, so it shows it to you again, but only to you. So don’t get excited if you’ve got to the position 1 in 3 weeks – no one else is seeing it. Google can be cruel can’t it!
I do all my posting with Firefox and checking with Explorer which deletes the history and cookies every time I close it.
